Jane N. Kraft of McLean, Va., passed away on October 4, 2026, surrounded by loving family, both two-and-four-legged, after suffering a stroke. Born May 23, 1931, in Chicago, to Dr. Emanuel Newman and Babette Newman, the family moved to Falls Church, Va., where she grew up. Jane was dedicated to her family and leadership roles in various Jewish organizations, including NOVA Brandeis National Committee and Beth El Hebrew Congregation in Alexandria, Va., where she served terms as president of both organizations.
Known as the “Energizer Bunny” to her family, in addition to her volunteer work Jane was an astute businesswoman who for 20 years in the pre-online banking days operated a check cashing business in Ocean City, Md.
Jane was predeceased by her beloved husband Marvin Burstein and the youngest of her four children, David Kraft (Theresa). Jane is survived by her son Dr. Burton Kraft (Joanie), Andrea Tulla (David) and Cynde Singer (Mitch). She also is survived by her two stepdaughters Susan Rashkin (Sam) and Sharon Franca (Jeff Davis).
Affectionally called “Gammy,” she was the family matriarch who embraced modern technology, especially Facetime, to stay in touch with her 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel at National Funeral Home,7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042, US, on October 7, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
A graveside service will be held at King David Memorial Gardens, 2712 Hollywood Rd, Falls Church, VA 22042, US, on October 7, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
Following the graveside service, a reception will be hosted in the James Room at National Funeral Home, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042, US, on October 7, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
