"Jim" James Phillips

James Frederick Phillips (Jim) age 82, went to be with the Lord on Weds. June 3, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maxine Thomas Phillips and George R Phillips. Jim is survived by his wife, Grace Phillips, daughter Kimberly Foster, and son Rev. James F. Phillips (Wanda), Eric (Rebekha) Shaw. Grand-children include Jennifer N. Foster, James E. Phillips, Antonio F. Phillips, Renate Shaw, and Samuel Shaw. Brothers- Thomas E. Phillips (Jo Ann), Dale Phillips, David Phillips, Sisters- Linda Myers (Gregory), Joan La Haie (Roland), Dana Bright (Ted) and hosts of nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held Saturday July 13, 2019 1pm – 5pm at National Funeral Home, 7482 Lee Highway Falls Church, VA 22042. Burial plans will be at a later time.

He was born in Columbus, Ohio and raised in Circleville Ohio. He graduated from Central State University and attend graduate classes at Ohio State University. He served in the US Army in Korea and at Fort Knox Ky. He later transferred to the Air Force and served in the Reserves, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.

In civilian life Jim worked in the IRS and eventually became Chief Executive of the Internal Affairs in the Treasury Department in Washington, DC. He attend Arlington Temple United Methodist Church. He enjoyed socializing at Patton Hall, going to Bethany Beach, organizing and participating in the Cosmopolitans of DC (a fundraising group for charity), being a board president at his condominium, going to Never 2 Late exercise class, and spending time with his family and friends. He had a passion for politics and watching Ohio State Football.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St Jude Children's Research hospital.

Grace - I was sorry to hear about Jim's passing. I know he lived a wonderful life with a wonderful wife and family. He was a fun man to spend time with and he will be missed. Grace - I was so sorry to read about Jim’s passing! My most sincere condolences. It looks like you two had A LOT of fun together - I live all the pictures of you in costume!

I am out of town so I won’t be able to attend the visitation tomorrow, but I will be there in spirit.
