

Joan Grochowsky Walker, age 89, of Arlington, Virginia, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2025. Born on April 7, 1936, in Superior, Wisconsin, she spent her early years in Duluth, Minnesota, on Park Point, before moving to Alexandria, Virginia, during her teenage years.
Joan dedicated much of her life to her family, raising her three children, Cathy, Bill and Jennifer, with love and care. After her children were self-sufficient, she returned to the workforce where she worked as an Executive Assistant both at Directory Distributing in Landover, Maryland, and later enjoying a long career at Dreyfuss Brothers in Bethesda, Maryland.
After more than 50 years of marriage, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, John “Jack” Walker, and her son, Bill Walker. Joan is survived by her daughters Cathy Walker, Jennifer (Scott) Lee, and Tanya (Bill) Walker; her grandchildren Chelsea (Spencer) Ernst, Owen Lee, Lee Walker, Brian Walker, Ella Walker, Will Walker, her loyal granddog Birdy, along with nephew Jack (Jan) Tracey and nieces Jody Tracey, Juliette (Robert) Goldman, and Jennifer (Scott) Kishimori. Joan also leaves behind her great-grandchildren June Ernst and Rye Ernst, who brought her so much joy.
Joan’s life was defined by her love for her family and her passion for living life fully. She was an avid exerciser who enjoyed long walks, gardening, reading, and exploring new places. Above all, Joan treasured the time spent with her loved ones, creating memories that will be cherished forever.
A private interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest alongside her husband, Jack, at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Animal Welfare League of Arlington, Capital Caring Hospice, the Alzheimer’s Association, or simply that you blow a sweet kiss to loved ones and remind them with a heartfelt “I love you.”
Joan’s warmth, kindness, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
