Joel and Donna Cook Our Life Together

Joel was born on August 9, 1942, in South Dakota to his loving parents, Arie and Laree Cook. From an early age, Joel experienced a life full of adventure and travel. Growing up took him from South Dakota to Japan and Germany, and later in life he enjoyed visiting places such as Egypt, Swan Island, and Italy. He carried a deep appreciation for the people, stories, and experiences he encountered throughout his journeys.

More than anything, Joel loved spending time with family and friends. Whether he was out on the golf course, sitting around a poker table, or relaxing with a cold beer in hand, he had a way of making everyone around him laugh and feel welcome. Joel and his beloved wife Donna became known for having “the party house” — a home always filled with fun, stories, music, and people who felt like family.

Joel lived by a simple but unforgettable philosophy: life is only as serious as you make it. He believed in enjoying the moment, laughing often, and not letting life weigh too heavily on your shoulders. That outlook became one of the greatest lessons he passed on to those who loved him.

He is now reunited with the love of his life, Donna L. Cook, along with his brothers, whom he missed dearly.

Joel was a devoted and loving father to David L. (“Sis”) Cook and Steven D. (Michelle) Cook. He was a proud grandfather to Erin McGlamery-Vivian, Tyler S. Cook, Corey N. Cook, P.J. Mulvaney, Alissa Gemme, Aeriel Anne-Marie Cook, Alexa Marie Cook and Shantel Dupont, and a cherished great-grandfather to Robert David Joel McGlamery, Jazmyn Cook, Brooke Mulvaney, Jaxsin Gemme, Brodie Mulvaney, Elliana Oliver, Jenzie Gemme, Emma Lee Vivian, Sadie Grace Cook and Elias Oliver.

Joel’s laughter, stories, and easygoing spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Services for Joel will be held on June 5, 2026, with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, 1102 W. Broad Street, Falls Church, Virginia. A graveside service will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, 401 N. Roosevelt Street, Falls Church, Virginia.
