John Langley Adair passed away peacefully on September 1, 2026 after a long illness. He was 72 years old. John was the oldest child of Eugenia Adair and John Langley Adair, Sr, and was preceded in death by his sister, Marilyn Adair Cartwright (Richard).
John is survived by his wife of forty-one years, Patricia Koerbel Adair, daughter Keturah Louise Adair (Andre Reveille), siblings David Adair (Laura Ryan), Alan Adair and Mary Helen MacLean (Michael). His loving family includes brother-in-law Keith Koerbel and in-laws Vickie and Charles Long, as well as nephews, nieces and cousins.
Prior to succumbing to a disease that robbed him of the activities which brought him much joy, John was an active member of his community as a youth soccer coach, a “Founding Farmer” of the Thomas Jefferson Middle School Community Garden, an avid cyclist, and community volunteer. In 2019, he was named an Arlington County Honored Citizen.
John was a graduate of Cornell University (1976), the University of Pennsylvania (1993), and Trinity Preparatory School of Florida (1972). In 2013, Trinity Prep recognized his athletic and academic achievements with induction into their Athletic Hall of Fame.
John’s interest in working in international development began in the Peace Corps (Botswana, 1988-1991). He worked with US AID on development projects in Southern Africa. John’s inquisitive mind and creative nature sparked his interest in many areas, including carpentry, art, genealogy, old Florida and gardening. He was a very proud father and leaves a hole in our hearts that will never be filled.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donating to the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC) (https://afac.org/donate-funds/) or the Animal Welfare League of Arlington (https://www.awla.org/donate/other-ways-to-give/), two organizations which were near and dear to John’s heart.
