John Popels

Mr. John Popels, age 86, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2023 at Parkway Cove in Covington, TN. John was born November 30, 1936 in Latvia to Aleksandris and Valentine Kusins Popels and he was married 51 years to Mildred Ann Brady Popels, who all precede him in death.

John enjoyed cars, fishing and stamp and coin collecting. John was a longtime architect for the federal government, working at the Navy Yard and the Smithsonian until he retired in 2005. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Middletown, Delaware and St. James Catholic Church in Falls Church, VA .

He is survived by a son, Allen Popels of Gainesville, VA, two daughters: Linda Popels, her husband, Ric Ruof of Atoka, TN, and Ann Pisz, her husband Kevin of McLean, VA , three grandchildren: Kayla Ruof, Elise Pisz and Morgan Pisz.

Mr. Popels will be carried back to Virginia to be laid to rest next to his wife, Mildred Popels at Columbia Gardens in Arlington, VA.
