Joe was our neighbor in Falls Church. He and Kay were like family to us – what would begin with casual conversation over the fence became shared meals and many hours together. Joe was like an uncle to my son Michael, teaching him the finer points of eating peanuts and swinging an axe. Joe was larger than life – a respected and an admired man. We will miss him greatly.

Since my house is directly in back of Joe and Kay's house, I remember Joe in his backyard splitting wood, wheeling the wheelbarrow to the compost pile, and especially grilling. He got up in middle of the night once or twice to help pick my ailing husband off of the floor when he couldn't get up. Joe was a wonderful neighbor and an unforgettable person.

We have wonderful memories of Saint Patrick’s Day Celebrations
at the Benko’s. Joe’s conversations were memorable. What a lovely, spiritual gentleman!
S. E. Mac Naughton wrote, “Those who have lived in our hearts are never really gone. As long as we keep them with us, in our hearts and our thoughts, they will be with us always. For love, which is timeless, never ceases to exist.”
Your loss is deeply felt,
