Joseph Lopez was senior to me at Allahabad Agricultural Institute.
He was a very jovial person and very good at hockey and badminton.
We often went to watch their badminton matches.
We reunited at Bangalore for the Alumni meet in 2002.
I had a telecom with him in April 2017 during my visit to Washington but could not meet due to his ill health followed by a surgery.
He was in India in 2017 but again could not meet him, my loss.
May his soul rest in peace and Almighty give strength to you Francesca for the loss of your dearest DAD.

I will always remember Uncle Joe as one of those larger than life characters I've had the pleasure to know. He was someone who had a joyful heart, one that was overflowing with love for everyone. As a child it was fascinating to hear all the stories he told, it was every entertaining and he always answered my boatload of subsequent questions patiently. I fondly remember the last time we met in May of 2017 after so many years and how we connected on a much deeper level. Without a doubt I will always remember the life lessons he imparted to me then and I am forever grateful for that treasured time. 

Dearest Fran, no words or prose could ever express the loss of your father. You are indeed his greatest treasure and joy. Rest assured that he is reunited with your mum and that the both of them will continue to watch over you from heaven above.

I first met Joe in the 1980s when he joined the World Bank. He came to the Bank after years of service in Sime Darby in Malaysia.  He became a close friend of mine and joined the small Malaysian community at the Bank. Joe was a genial person and had a large network both here in the United States and Malaysia. 

Joe was unique in so many ways but one trait that singled him out was that he always stood up for the underdog. He was always there for his friends when needed. Joe was a fighter. This was clearly evident in the way he took up causes that irked him. There was another side to him – that of a loving and caring husband. He demonstrated this in the long span of time in which he cared for Jojo as she struggled with her ill health. He was a doting and proud father to Francesca.

Joe’s congenial nature endeared him to many. He will therefore be remembered and missed. May he Rest in Peace.

We laughed, cried, ate, had differences but always kept in touch.  🙏🏽
I always remember our last meeting at Saravan Bhavan in PJ New Town in December 2019. We had a long lunch, you asked for hot tea and then waited till it got cold before drinking, normal JoChen preference for cold tea.  
I will miss your messages, your wit and your visits to Malaysia. 
Farewell my dear Cousin, we wish you a fabulous, blessed journey. 
We love you yesterday, today and always.

I remember my 2 visits to US to spend time with Joe, Jojo and Francesca. Both visits were before Jojo’s passing and I had a wonderful time. 
Joe even took me to a Chocolate factory . Well, I’d like to think it was for Fran’s sake and not for this (then) 40 something year old cousin’s sake.
The evening before I left to return to Malaysia (on my last visit) I remember him sitting beside me  and saying “ I wish you could stay longer”. Sadly I couldn’t.
Once back home, he sent me a book of Shakespeare’s plays because I had told him I regretted discarding the book my dad loved so much after he (my dad) had passed away. It was very kind and considerate of him to do so. 
There are many sides to him but these are the memories I shall keep.

I only met you a few times and that was enough to see that you were a fun loving person of kindness, generosity and warmth. And that is how I will always remember you.

May you forever rest in peace, Dearest Uncle Joe, in the ever loving arms of our Eternal Father. Amen.

Godspeed uncle Joe. May you be granted eternal peace. You will always be remembered.

I had great pleasure working with both Joe and Librada (JoJo) at the World Bank in Washington DC between 1986 and 1990. Both were  very good work colleagues and became lasting friends. 
Moira and I were delighted to be invited to their daughter Francesca's Masters Degree ceremony at University of Manchester, England. A very happy and celebratory occasion with the three of them, it will always be in our memories as will Joe and Francesca's visit to us a few years later in Paphos, Cyprus where we live.
