Although I did not have the pleasure of knowing Kelly or her family, I read about the passing of my fellow alumna from the William and Mary Magazine. 
After reading a little bit about her, I wanted to express my condolences on your tragic loss. Kelly was obviously a gift to the world and to teaching. Her influence will go on in those she taught and loved in this life.
May she rest in the peace of Christ. May her family and friends be blessed with the fortitude and peace needed to weather this tragic loss.

Kelly truly was an amazing person and I'm still floored by this awful turn of events.  My children -- her neices and Nephews -- have been blessed to have her in her life. She is an amazing inspiration and I can't imagine, Alex and Mr and Mrs Barker, how you have dealt with this.  Alex is one of the strongest people I know and I will keep all of you in my prayers

I was lucky enough to have grown up with Kelly my entire life.  Pre-school until High School Graduation, she always stood out as a someone who wasn't just good, but understood exactly what being good meant.  She was equipped with this  quality at a very young age, like 5.  Nice is not a big enough word, sweet is a bit condescending...she was bold.  Bold in the way she saw the world and understood her place within.   I didn't know Kelly as a teacher by sitting in one of her class rooms, however I was lucky enough to witness her first glimpses at the profession.  I'm not certain if SODA still exist, well let me explain.  SODA or Student Organization Developing Attitudes, was a High Schooler's first look back and chance to shine on the stage of the classroom floor.  I can't remember who or how we were pitched on the idea, but sure enough myself, Kelly, and Celia Williamson decided that we would team up and go back to our middle school to teach, something, to those bright eyed 6th graders.  I was a fish completely out of water, and likely only attended to get out of class for a few hours, Kelly was a sparkling gem.  An illustration of  this is the kids calling me Frosty and Kelly, Miss Barker.  

I also happen to have been fortunate enough to take Kelly to the Senior Prom.  To that point I'd lived my life within one hair style for 18 years, however prom night i decided to go a in a different direction.  A direction that was boy band meets bed head.  When I arrived at the door she didn't flinch.  What I assumed would be a point of conversation, she shrugged off.  I can honestly say in 18 years I never saw her be anything but kind.  

It'd be nice to wrap this with the tradition gone too soon bow, however the world is a far less great place without her and cancer really sucks.   

Kelly, you will be missed and live on in the memories of the countless people you've touched.  It was my pleasure spending my first 18 years with you.

Mrs. Chapman was the sweetest most loved teacher in Stratford landing elementary school, she helped my little sister fight for her rights to get special help for her special needs. Now I am a senior and my sister is a freshman in high school, thank you Mrs. Chapman for having such an impact on us, and everyone you met.
