Kenneth E. Woodward, 85, of Vienna, VA died on Wednesday, May 1, 2013. He was the loving husband for 57 years to Mary M. Woodward; devoted father of Stephen (Jacqueline) Woodward and Kristi (Jeffrey) Burke. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Aleksandra "Layne" Woodward, Stephanie "Jordan", Ethan, Rebekah and step-grandchildren, Carly and Ian Burke; several nieces and nephews.
Kenneth was an accomplished scholar, he was an American University Ph.D. (1973), who was an author or co-author of 43 published works that included pioneering research in the development of human artificial hearts. He was a 13-time award or fellowship recipient, most notably a Department of the Army Exceptional Civilian Service Honoree. He held 12 U.S. and two Canadian patents, including a U.S. patented artificial heart pump circulation system recognized in 1965.
Relatives and friends are invited to Kenneth's Life Celebration at Money & King Funeral Home, Vienna, VA on Friday, May 3 from 4 to 6 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 4 at National Memorial Park, Falls Church, VA at 10 a.m.
