Larry Leon Lewis was born on October 19, 1952 to the parents of Willie and Annie Ruth Lewis in Mathews, Virginia. He is the second oldest of the siblings of this union. He is preceded in death by his father. At an early age he accepted Christ as his Savior and became a member of the First Baptist Church of Mathews.
He received his early education in Mathews, where he attended Thomas Hunter School and graduated from Mathews High School. During his high school years, he played basketball, drove the school bus, and worked at the A & P Grocery Store. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Norfolk State College (now University) in 1975. He became a Certified Public Accountant in Maryland in 1985.
His professional career began with his employment at Price Waterhouse, followed by employment at Arthur Anderson, Alleghany Airlines (now U. S. Airways, Inc) where he began as a senior auditor and progressed to the position of manager-internal auditor. In April 1986 he began working at the National Gallery of Art. He was hired to establish an internal audit function. In his first year in this role he was able to reduce the audit cost by $200,000. He has worked at the National Gallery of Art for twenty-seven years where he held the position of Manager-Internal Auditor General.
Larry enjoyed playing and watching sports - especially basketball (and he was a Maryland Terrapins fan). He was an avid reader of sports news and routinely read several papers each day for stats. He especially loved Redskins Home Games and he was a season ticket holder for many years.
He adored his two sons Jeffrey and Christopher and loved coaching their basketball teams. He led their teams to many championships throughout the years. He volunteered with the boy scouts, served on several leadership panels and was an active member of the community. He served as a Deacon at Riverside Baptist Church in Washington DC for many years.
In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Patricia E. Davison, Esq., his two sons, Jeffrey Lawrence and Christopher Robert. He is also survived by two sisters, Linda Newsome and Robin Lewis and cousins, nieces and a host of family and friends.
