Larry Anthony Soufal of Falls Church, VA, age 72, a retired Intelligence Analyst, died of pneumonia at the Virginia Hospital Center on April 17, 2019. He will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery. A devoted husband and father, he is survived by his wife Sherry, son Steven, daughter Allison, and granddaughter Jayde. Larry was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 3, 1946 and graduated from Northwestern University in 1968. He received a Master’s Degree from the American University in 1977. He came to the Washington, DC area to join the Central Intelligence Agency where he spent over 38 years serving in many different roles including Executive Assistant to the Director. Larry took a three-year leave of absence from the CIA to serve in the US Army. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant upon graduation with honors from Combat Engineer Officer Candidate School at Fort Belvoir, VA. After active duty, he remained in the reserves, graduated from the US Army Command and General Staff College on the Commandant’s List in 1984, and retired in 1997. Over the years, Larry served on the boards of the Lemon Road Civic Association and McLean High School PTA, did volunteer work for the Fairfax County Financial Education, the American Red Cross, the Northern Virginia Mental Health Association, and the Falls Church Homeless Shelter. He was a generous contributor to the Combined Federal Campaign, Children International, the Vienna Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, environmental causes, and other charities. His avocations included sports and physical fitness (he played in the Northern Virginia Senior Softball league), financial planning and investing, foreign travel and languages, reading, and studying Civil War history.
