A few days after his eighty-fifth birthday, Larry Short made his last flight over the rainbow on October 31, 2014. Born in Evansville, Indiana he was the beloved husband of Roberta, son of James and Irma, brother of The Reverend James Short, S.J., the late Joan Frohbieter (James), Dr. John Short (Maureen), Joyce Short, and Dr. Charles Short ( Jeanne). Loving father of Laure Westerman (Dwight), Steven Short (Nicole), Tracey Porter (Douglas), Brent Barnes (Elsa) and Cynthia Boyd (Kent), Larry was the proud grandfather of Christopher, Ashley (Antonio), Kyle, Sarah, Sam, Kimberly, Heather and Ryan, great-grandfather of Amare and Ariah.
After graduation from St. Louis University, Larry was an exuberant Navy pilot, night flying from the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea. Following graduation from Georgetown Law Center, he was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 1966. Larry had a distinguished law career serving as counsel to Japan Airlines, Lufthansa, Swissair and a number of other international carriers. He retired from the DC law firm, Steptoe and Johnson in 1996.
Arrangements are being made by Murphy Funeral Homes, Falls Church. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Capital Caring Hospice, 4715 15th Street N, Arlington, VA, 22205, or to the charity of choice in Larry’s name.
