

“Give me a problem and I’ll hand you a solution.” Those who knew Lawrence John McGee would agree that that motto accurately described him. Larry was a man of great drive and a very original, independent thinker. For Larry, no challenge was impossible, and just about any desired result was within his grasp. Larry placed great trust in his intuition. Since that intuition generally led him in the right direction, who was he to doubt it.
He was the son of George and Bessie McGee. His childhood found him in Uniontown, PA where he matured into the independent person he eventually became.
Larry grew up with four siblings. He had one older sister, Patricia, one older brother George and two younger sisters, Maureen and Sharon. Larry graduated from St. John's in 1960. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from The George Washington University, where he was proud of the fact that he won a scholarship created for a married student who had a child.
Larry was loyal to his friends. While growing up, his best friend was Eddie McArdle. Later in life, he became friends with RD Floyd and Bernie Mason.
On June 6, 1965, Larry exchanged wedding vows with Vera Lorraine Lothery at Saint Thomas More Cathedral of Arlington, VA. In June, they would have celebrated 50 years of marriage. He had one child, one daughter Erin and one grandson, John Lawrence (Jack). They were always aware of how much Larry loved them.
During Larry's professional working years, he was at his best when working independently. It became the hallmark of his performance. Larry was generally able to refocus his drive and determination and readily work toward finding a way to get things done that was beneficial to himself and his co-workers. His primary occupation was a Civil Engineer. He was employed for The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for 30 years.
For Larry, his outside interests and hobbies included cooking, being a true foodie and was a Civil War buff.
Watching his favorite sporting events with his sports fanatic wife, Vera, was one of his favorite pastimes. Larry was a true Washington sports fan. At one time he had season tickets to the Redskins, Nationals and The George Washington University boys AND girls basketball.
Larry's faith allowed him to better appreciate the gifts and opinions of others. He was a member of Saint James Catholic Church for over 40 years. During that time, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Lawrence John McGee passed away on November 13, 2014 at Virginia Hospital Center. He is survived by his wife, Vera; daughter, Erin; and grandson, Jack. Services will be held at Saint James Catholic Church. Larry will be laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery in Falls Church, VA.
