Lilliam Sarah Vázquez

A native of Pinar del Rio, Cuba, Lilliam was characterized by a deep love and total dedication for her family. She was a powerful guiding light for a large and adoring family; a beautiful wife, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt (“Tia”), godmother, and friend; and a teacher loved by all. She was an inspiration and overcame many challenges, including obtaining a degree in education, escaping from a communist regime and coming to the United States with a seven-month old baby and pregnant, and learning a new language.

Lilliam is survived by her husband of 60 years, Raul Antonio Vazquez; three children, Jose “Joe” (Emily) Vazquez, Nelson (Barbara) Vazquez, and Michelle “Michy” (Eric) Peña; and many nieces and nephews, including Rosa (Art) McGonigal and Sandra (Gary) Drayer. She was born to Julio Carranza and Consuelo Valdes and had one sister, Aida Rosa, and four brothers, Julio “Juli”, Aldo, Eduardo “Eddie”, and Carlos “Carlitos.” Her great love and care of children was a gift she shared with many, including ten grandchildren, Victoria Lilliam Chartrand, Taylor Dominick Vazquez, Emilio Alan Vazquez, Anthony Raul Vazquez, Sophia Landers Vazquez, Julian Jose Vazquez, Hunter James Peña, Roman Tyler Peña, Lyla Jane Vazquez, Olivia Victoria Peña; and two great grandchildren, Cole Alan Chartrand, and Brayden Nelson Vazquez.

A celebration of life visitation and prayer service for Lilliam will be held Sunday, March 27, 2022, for family from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM and for friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, at Murphy Funeral Homes, 1102 West Broad Street, Falls Church, VA, 22046.
