Lorine Payson Mann Coyle, 77, of Falls Church, Virginia, died February 20th after a courageous battle with a neurological disease. Lorine leaves behind her soul mate of 53-years, James, who gave her extraordinary care during her final years, as well as her son Jeffrey (Katie), daughter Amanda (Mark), and five grandchildren: Kennedy, Liam, Hazel, Colin and Will. Lorine also leaves behind her two loving sisters, Jocelyn and Karen, extended family and many dear friends.
Lorine grew up in Melrose, MA, and graduated from Keuka College, NY with a double major in English and Sociology. She spent her career helping others through social work, communications, and hospice bereavement. Lorine spent the bulk of her career – 28 years – at Bechtel Power Corporation managing employee communications. Lorine was much beloved by her coworkers at Bechtel, as evidenced by her failed efforts to retire three different times after appeals for her help with “just one more project.”
Lorine was most proud of her work as a hospice bereavement counselor where she volunteered in co-facilitating group bereavement for fatherless daughters and individuals mourning the loss of a spouse. Lorine felt great pride in the work and connections she built, often observing how life-affirming the experiences were. And, in the end, these experiences repaid her by allowing her to face her own death with strength and perspective.
From moving her young family to Egypt to traveling domestically and internationally with Jim and a group of very close friends upon retirement, Lorine moved through life with grace and courage. She enjoyed skiing in Pennsylvania with family and biking in the U.S. and Europe with American and German friends.
She was expressive and empathetic, and she approached life with a strong love for connecting with others. For those lucky enough to know her, her presence was strongly felt. She leaves this earth a much better place for the connections and love for life she fostered.
