Born August 15, 1916, Arlington, Virginia - Died May 27, 2013, Palm Harbor, Florida.
Margaret grew up in McLean, Virginia. After graduating from Central High School in Washington, D.C., Margaret attended Strayer Business College. She married Randy Spicer on August 11, 1937 in the National Memorial Baptist Church in D.C.
Margaret was an excellent secretary working off and on for a total of twenty years for the Federal government – mostly for the Department of Agriculture Forest Service and for a couple of years in the Pentagon; all this between stints of raising four daughters.
While living for over thirty years in Falls Church, VA she served as a Deacon, was active in Women’s groups and played with the “Chimers” at the Falls Church Presbyterian Church. After retiring in 1979, Margaret and Randy headed to Palm Harbor, Florida to enjoy the fun in the sun. Margaret’s sisters both moved their families to the same neighborhood soon thereafter.
Margaret and Randy joined the Presbyterian Church of Palm Harbor when the small congregation worshipped in the Masonic Temple. They were excited about taking part in helping establish the fledgling church. Margaret served on the Mission Ministry and was a server and coordinator for “Meals on Wheels” for over 18 years.
Margaret enjoyed playing golf, bowling and Saturday night family gatherings for games with her sisters and their husbands. She and husband Randy enjoyed over 60 years of marriage before his death in 1996. They had the opportunity to do a lot of traveling by car, plane or cruise ship.
Margaret is survived by her sister Ruth Kenestrick; four daughters Joan Ruddle (Art), Peg Hutson, Betty Reed and Kathy Clingenpeel (Vince); 10 Grandchildren; 19 Great-Grandchildren; 9 Great-Great-Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was always a staunch supporter of all her family and enjoyed the opportunities for visits.
A memorial service was held in Palm Harbor, Florida on June 1. A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 16, 2013 at 3:00 PM at National Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Suncoast Hospice, 5771 Roosevelt Blvd., Clearwater, FL 33760 or The Presbyterian Church of Palm Harbor, 2021 Nebraska Ave., Palm Harbor, FL 34683.
