Maria J. Santos

Maria J. Santos passed away peacefully on Friday, May 7, 2021 surrounded by family and loved ones. Maria was born on March 18, 1963 in Barcelona, Spain and spent most of her life residing in Northern Virginia. She worked at the Government Accountability Office for over 30 years, where she fulfilled her passion for helping others and made lifelong friends. More than anything, Maria loved reading and could often be found nose deep in one of the many Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Dalai Lama books. She was a quick learner and excelled in just about everything, from learning English at a young age to receiving her MBA at George Washington University. Maria always put her family first and ensured her children led happy, fulfilled lives. Maria is survived by her father Evencio and mother Fermina, her sister Nuria, her daughter Caroline and son Joseph, her nephew Zachary and nieces Gabriella and Sofia, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins residing in Spain. A Celebration of Life will be held for Maria on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at National Funeral Home (7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042). This event is open to her family, friends, and anyone else who wishes to attend. A live stream of this event will be available to those who can’t be there in person. Her family asks for donations to be made to Autism Awareness, a cause that was near and dear to Maria’s heart.
