Obituary of Marjorie Marie Hayes
Marjorie Marie Hayes passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2016 after enjoying 93 years of a rich and colorful life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, of 34 years and their daughter, Margaret Susan Lunsford. Marjorie is survived by her son Robert Woodruff Hayes and his wife, Molly, of Frederick, Maryland and her son George Franklin Hayes and his sweetheart Bonnie Speakman of Falls Church, Virginia. She is also survived by two granddaughters (Margaret’s daughters), Molly Pendley and Jennifer Hokit of San Luis Obispo, California, and two great grandchildren, Jackson and Oliver Hokit. Marjorie Marie Vannier was born on October 15, 1922 in Jacksonville, Illinois and moved to Arlington, Virginia about 1940 with her parents. She and Joe were married September 4, 1946 after his return from serving in the army in the South Pacific during World War II. They enjoyed a good life in Falls Church, Virginia with many summer vacations spent camping out in West Virginia with their three children. She worked in the school cafeteria in order so she could be home with her children after school. When they were grown, she went to work for the Health and Human Services Department using her skills of data entry on the new technologies. She retired from there in 1988. As her sight failed and mobility decreased, she found her pleasure in crocheting many colorful afghans, scarves, baby blankets, and shawls and anything else she could dream up. She carried her bag of crocheting wherever she went. In 2009, she moved to Lewinsville Retirement Residence in McLean, Virginia, where she found her greatest pleasure in playing in their resident band as a drummer. She will be missed by her family and loved ones. May she rest in peace and without pain.
