Matthew was born on January 14, 1988 in Washington D. C. to John P. Thomas and Sajini Thomas. Matthew graduated cum laude with a Bachelors in Business Administration (BBA) from the University of Memphis and completed his pre-medicine from the Columbia University.
After graduation, Matthew moved to Memphis, TN to complete his MD degree at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC). He was passionate about patient-focused care and working as a medical extern at Regional One Health Medical Center.
Matthew was also a very pure and loving soul and an amazing father to his precious daughter, Maya. Throughout his life, he treated everyone with kindness and trust even before they could prove trustworthy. His daughter however gave him the unconditional love he deserved. He was dedicated to his daughter’s wellbeing and she was the glue that helped him to hold his stressful education, career, and full life together.
Most of all, Matthew should be remembered as a humanitarian. He worked closely with the children of abused women at various shelters to educate them and provide them the care that was missing in their lives. He went to Peru to help build a sewage system for orphans; he adopted an orphan with his daughter for Christmas; and was teaching disabled children at the Missionaries of Charity in Memphis until recently.
Matthew loved challenges and was a graduate of the United States Marines Corps. He also was a Cross Fitter.
Matthew is survived by his beloved 6-year old daughter, Maya Loren Thomas; his loving parents, Sajini Thomas and John Thomas; step – father, Robin O’ Hara; uncles, aunts, and cousins.
