Michael James Bergen, 63

It is with great sadness that the family of Michael James Bergen announce his passing. Michael, age 63, passed away on January 10, 2019 in Fairfax, VA. He was born in Arlington, Virginia and grew up in Fairfax. He spent most of his adult life in that area before moving to Winchester in 2003. Michael worked as a Project Manager for a small construction company. When he wasn’t working he enjoyed spending time with his family and helping out family members and friends with carpentry projects. He loved watching football, especially the Redskins, and also loved auto racing. He was amazing with the use of his hands. He loved to build things and create what we would see as masterpieces. He was a true carpenter.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, James and Isabel.

Michael will be forever remembered by his children Chris (Emily) and Stacey, and his grandchildren Adam, Allison, and Christopher Jr. He will also be forever remembered by his brother and sisters Sharon (Joe) Fernandes, Cindy (Doug) Caldwell, and Patrick (Nimmi) Bergen. Michael will also be remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

A funeral service will be held at National Funeral Home, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, Virginia at 1:00pm, January 19, 2019. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 11:00am-12:45pm. Burial will follow the service at National Memorial Park at 2:00pm.

I offer my deepest heartfelt sympathy to the family and friends. I knew Mike from conducting business transactions for DPS and PSI over the phone. I could hear in his voice, that he had a kind spirit. I always felt comfortable when speaking with him, as his positive energy was warm and welcoming. I will always remember his kind voice.

Dear Sharon, Cindy and Family - we were so sorry to hear about Mike. It was too soon and he was too young. We all have wonderful memories of growing up in Lee High Village. I don't think we realized how great it was to have lived there. So many good things to remember .... I remember Mike running around - your little brother - just being a little brother. I wish I could attend the funeral but I will away on a trip out of state. Our deepest sympathies go out to you, Susan, Nancy and Tommy Ward (Susan Clarke, Nancy Higgen, Tom Ward)

I'm honored to have had the pleasure of working with Mike for 4+ years and I treasure the friendship we had. I will always think of him as my partner in crime and look back on so many fond memories of laughter, shared lunches, crazy email and silly text shared with him. It's difficult to walk the office halls and not miss him deeply. I wish you love and peace lots of spaghetti Mike a.k.a. Bergalicious! Love you and Miss you! Steph
