I am so very saddened to hear of the loss of Michael Gorman, my friend and Spanish teacher of many years..
He was a story teller of all people places and things, He loved discussing all of the Spanish speaking countries he visited, which I might add, made our Spanish class way more interesting, his life growing up in Atlantic City, his teaching career in D.C. and here in VA, and much more..There was always a crowd around him and he had this quiet gentle charisma..He always drew everyone into his conversation and always asked for their opinions too..These all took place in the welcoming environment of the JCC!
 We will all miss you Michael and as Carla said “especially Nancy and Stella and  all of us in the Spanish classes that he joyfully taught. Rest in Peace my friend and teacher, you always made me smile…

Michael often shared Spanish expressions, this seems especially  fitting now. May God be with you, Michael.

For many semesters, I was a student in "Dr. Gorman's" Introductory Spanish and Second Semester Spanish classes.   He always encouraged me to join his Conversational (advanced) Spanish class.  In an effort to help me gain my confidence, he allowed me to audit some of these sessions.

His warmth, genuine interest in his students, and willingness to accept each pupil in his class was inspirational.....a true "mensch!"

I am sending my deepest sympathies to his darling wife Nancy and adorable Stella.

Michael was always sharing beautiful Spanish expressions. What a fitting last goodbye.

I loved giving Stella presents when I visited. This past March I was my last visit. It seemed appropriate to give her a St. Pattie's tie. Michael loved it more than Stella. 

I was fortunate to visit  Nancy, Michael, Stella and Scottie in March as I live in Denver. A wonderful  time.

I am so saddened to hear this news. I was in his Spanish Class and also in various exercise classes with him. He was always a cheerful and kind man. He always had a kind word and great smile. May his name be for a blessing. 

Michael Gorman was our Spanish teacher at the JCC.  He was kind and patient,  with a gentle sense of humor.  He will be missed.


I’m very saddened by Michael’s passing.  I was a student in his Spanish class for several years.  His classes were not only a source of learning, but great fun and camaraderie.  Since there were no grades and we continue on from year to year, I would say it was impossible to graduate his classes.  Michael enjoyed sharing stories and jokes.  On more than one occasion I had to tell him that his handouts pre-dated the Cuban revolution!   I think one reason I appreciated Michael is that he would laugh at my jokes.   Michael’s class, and subsequently his friendship, was a reason I joined the JCC.   I’ll miss him, and will certainly remember him when I manage to converse in Spanish or remember some factoid that I would have never known. 

So sad to learn of Michael's passing.  Art and I enjoyed knowing Michael and his wife Nancy for many years through our membership at the Pozez JCC in Northern Virginia.  Several years ago the JCC had a yearly talent show.  Michael and Art put on a skit where they were both dressed up in costumes and entertained an audience at the J's Social Hall.  Lots of laughs!  Fond memories! We will miss him.

Michael was a bright light here at The J. whether he was teaching Spanish, kibbitzing in the lobby, or attending events, he was always engaged and engaging, with a smile on his face. Our community will definitely feel the impact of his passing, just as we enjoyed and benefitted from his presence. He will be missed by all of us at the J, and our thoughts and prayers are with Nancy (and Stella) during this difficult time.

I was so sad to hear about Michael. I am going to miss him at the J.
We always talked and he shared stories and gossip with me. He was always happy and he loved coming to the J to have his coffee and socialize with everyone.  I helped him sign up for classes, made his copies for his Spanish classes and just was there for him in general.  You will be truly missed Michael.  Thanks for all the memories and gifts that you gave me. I will miss you.

My heart is very saddened to hear of Professor Michael B. Gorman's passing. He was a sweet man who loved his wife Nancy and dog Stella fiercely. Michael was an engaging person who was well-known at the Pozez JCC, participating in exercise classes and programs and instructing adult students in various levels of the Spanish language. He will be dearly missed. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew and cared for him.
