
Miriam Theresa Taaffe, a lifelong resident of Albany, NY, died on March 17, 2015 in Falls Church, VA. She was the daughter of the late James T. Taaffe, Sr., and late Marie Bernardi Taaffe of Albany, NY and the sister of the late Dorothy B. Taaffe and James T. Taaffe, Jr. Mim, as she was affectionately called, was a graduate of the former Vincentian Institute and the College of St. Rose, both in Albany, NY.
During her college years, Mim was a business major, minoring in English, and was also active in the drama club, starring in the title role in Cyrano de Bergerac and other productions. After graduation, Mim joined the staff of the State University of New York (SUNY) and retired as Budget Control Officer to the SUNY Chancellor in 1975.
In retirement, Mim contributed her volunteer services to many organizations, including serving as Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Albany County Department of Aging, as Chairman of the Board of Mercy House, on the finance committee of St. Vincent DePaul Church, with VA Hospital patient activities, and as bookkeeper for St. Joseph's Church, Albany.
The Adirondack town of Inlet, NY was her second home and she and her sister Dorothy were summer fixtures there for the last several decades. There she and Dorothy, assisted by their brother Jim, created and produced scenic postcards which are still sold throughout the Old Forge region of New York. Mim and Dorothy were also early members of Inlet Historical Society.
Mim is survived by seven nieces and nephews (Tracey Manning of Columbia, MD, Barbara Paulauskis of Gaithersburg, MD, James T. Taaffe Ill of Fairbanks, AK, Margaret Cambone of McLean, VA, Christopher Taaffe of Oakland, CA, Thomas Taaffe of Vienna, VA and Patricia Lushina of Vienna, VA), and by many grandnieces and grandnephews, for whom she was a beloved aunt.
Her funeral and burial service will be held at a future date in Albany, New York.
In lieu of flowers, Mim would appreciate donations to the James T. and Marie B. Taaffe Music Fund at the College of St. Rose, 432 Western Avenue, Albany, New York 12203.
