

Mohammad Yasin Saaed passed away June 5, 2025, in Morganton, NC. Dr. Saaed was born on February 22, 1936, in Kabul, Afghanistan. He was educated at Lycée Isteqlal and Kabul University in Kabul before earning his Master’s degrees in mathematics and statistics at the University of Wyoming and Stanford University, respectively. He received his Ph.D. in Higher Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1969 before returning to Afghanistan with his family to teach and serve as Director of Research at Kabul University.
Dr. Saaed returned with his family to the US in 1972 and eventually became a US citizen, but he hoped one day to be able to return to Afghanistan. He taught at secondary and technical schools in Virginia and New York City for over 40 years, retiring in 2011 at age 75. He loved teaching and was beloved by his students.
Dr. Saaed cherished his family, and he will forever be cherished by his family — his wife Sandra; his children Jamila, Ahmad David, and Alia; his grandson Sasha Yasin; his sisters and brother; and his many nieces and nephews.
His children will miss their beautiful father. We are him and he is us.
