Molly Kaufman, preferred to be called Mola, was born Malka Awret to father Jacob Awret and Golda Dazidowvitz in Odessa, in the former Soviet Union in 1909. She is survived by her 2 sons Robert Kaufman and Louis Kaufman, daughter-in-laws Susan Kaufman and Margie Katz and grandchildren David Kaufman, Stacy Kaufman, Benjamin Kaufman, and Tisha Kaufman as well as sister-in-law Irene Awret and great grandchildren Leah Kaufman, Joshua Kaufman and Sky Kaufman.
Mola migrated to Buenos Aires, Argentina from Brussels, Belgium and was married 54 years to her husband, Charles Kaufman, who passed away in 1990.
Mola's first love was her art. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels and had studied and taught painting and print making in Brussels, Belgium, Montevideo, Uruguay, Buenos Aires, Argentina, Columbia and in Northern Virginia.
Mola moved to Falls Church, VA in 1952 where she worked as a graphic artist for the Hecht Company in Washington, DC, then as a graphic illustrator for the Federal Aviation Agency, where she retired with honors. After her retirement from the FAA, she became a full time artist and had many juried art shows that included her ceramics, water colors, lithographs and woodcuts. (Mola insisted in having her own kiln in the backyard of her home in Falls Church, VA.) She became very proficient in all the mediums she used and had won many first prize awards in her shows that were held throughout Northern Virginia and Seattle, WA.
After her husband's death, Mola moved to S. Florida, where she continued her art work.
Funeral will be held on April 24 at 10:00 AM at the King David Memorial Garden in Falls Church, VA with a light lunch immediately afterwards at the Comfort Inn Tyson's Corner.
