Nancy Hearne Johnson of Falls Church, Virginia, died of natural causes at the age of 88, with her family by her side. Nancy was born in Portsmouth, Virginia and grew up in Cradock, Virginia. After graduating from Radford College she married her high school sweetheart and moved to Richmond, Virginia, where her only daughter was born. They soon kept moving north to the suburbs of Washington, D.C. but always lived this side of the river in Virginia. Her first husband Joseph O. Hearne III died in 1988. She remarried Jack Kenyon Johnson and he died in 2009. She was always a loving mother, and grand-mother. She provided the foundation for their passion for horses and supported their participation in equestrian sports. She loved their horses and was always an animal lover of all kinds. She supported The ASPCA, The National Federation for Wildlife and the Audubon Society. She had also been a community and political volunteer most of her life and enjoyed her faith in the Methodist Church. She is survived by her daughter Robin Leigh Hearne Kockler, grand-daughter Courtney Nicole Kockler Jefferson and her kitty, Summer.

Grandma Nancy was such a sweet, caring, and funny lady. She opened their home to me while I was teaching in northern Virginia, and I cherish the times and talks we had. I'm so grateful for the light and fun she brought into Grandpa Jack's life. I love you, Courtney and Robin, and send you hugs and prayers during this time of loss.

Robin and Courtney—my condolences to you both. What a great woman she was and I am so happy that my father had his last years with love in his life, humor (indeed she had a wonderful sense of humor), and someone who deeply cared for him. She will be missed by many.

While always a lady, Nancy still parlayed witt and a wicked sense of humor that never ceased to amaze the Johnson family - it would come out of no where, hit it's intended victim, and leave you admiring her quick thinking! We all loved her.

Robin shared many funny stories about Nancy, even after she started having health issues. She had to be very special to have such a loving, caring, & devoted daughter. Courtney is lucky to have known her grandmother’s love .

I remember the grace and poise Nancy held during Courtney's wedding. It is clear to me how much she was loved and how much she loved her family. While she will be missed, she will not be forgotten. Her memory lives on in her beautiful daughter and granddaughter and all those who knew her. With love and compassion,

Robin shared many, many stories about her mother, Nancy such that even though I was with her in person only a few very brief times, I felt like I knew her.

I recall sensing her genuine love and kindess at Robin’s home during Courtney’s graduation and also at Courtney’s wedding. I definitely saw the gleam of pride in her eyes!

I thank God for...
Nancy’s loving soul,
the gift of her life,
and the gift of her love for Robin & Courtney.

And I thank you, Nancy Christian Hearn Johnson , for a life well-lived. Your friends and your darlings love and miss you terrribly already and forever.
