Neil Eisner

Born on February 19, 1943 in Syracuse, New York, Neil was the son of Martin Bert Eisner and Bertha Martha Eisner. He graduated from Syracuse University and earned his Juris Doctor from Columbia University School of Law.

Neil dedicated his professional life to public service and legal education. He began his career as a trial attorney and Deputy Assistant Chief Counsel for Litigation with the Federal Aviation Administration and the U.S. Department of Transportation. He retired in 2013 as Assistant General Counsel for Regulation and Enforcement in the Office of the Secretary, U.S. Department of Transportation. In addition, he served as an Adjunct Professor at American University’s and Washington University’s College of Law.

Throughout his distinguished career, Neil was a Senior Fellow of the Administrative Conference of the U.S.(ACUS) and chaired its Rulemaking Committee for many years. In addition, Neil was a former Chair of the American Bar Association (ABA) Section of Administrative Law and Regulatory Practice. His contributions to administrative law and public service earned him numerous professional honors and awards.

Outside of work, Neil enjoyed following the New York Yankees, supporting Syracuse University athletics, and spending time at Lake Barcroft with family and friends.

Neil was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Bertha Eisner, and his brother, Michael.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Lettmann; his children, David Jeffrey Eisner (Marni) and Jennifer Lauren Eisner; stepdaughter, Michelle Kinney (Jeff); grandchildren, Ryan, Ethan, and Tyler Eisner; his step-grandaughters,Teagan and Blair; and his brothers- and sister in-law, Edward(Elaine), Michael (Marnee), Thomas, Robert, and Kathleen.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
