Born September 1, 1949, Patricia Ywin Gurney, 77, of South Arlington, Virginia, died peacefully September 11, 2026, in her home among family and friends.
Patricia was born in Singapore in 1949 to parents Kenneth C. and Josephine Ywin, Patricia attended St Philomena Girls School and later graduated with a BSc degree from the Rangoon Arts & Science U. She was co-founder of Duncan Database, a London-based relational database system. Patricia took pride in actively promoting the Business Development & Marketing of the company’s software which significantly increased the company’s growth.
A connoisseur of fine Italian cuisine followed by Thai food, Patricia enjoys exploring different Italian dishes and wines and Thai restaurants. A typical foodie always in search of trendy restaurants, hidden gems and street food carts or trucks.
Compassionate, generous, spontaneous, cheerful and sociable are some of the many adjectives to describe the key traits of a rare person like Patricia who brought endless joy and comfort to the lives of those she met. She learned classical Burmese dance and performed at concerts. Loved the opera, gardening, and water color painting among other artistic pursuits, until paused by her illness.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents Kenneth C. and Josephine Ywin and brother Kenneth Ywin, husband Edward (Ed) Gurney & ex husband Nicholas Duncan. She is survived and will be missed dearly by beloved siblings sister Jennifer Beatson, brothers Geoffery and Michael Ywin and stepdaughters Caroline, Amanda and Joanna Duncan, nieces and nephews Arthur & Charles Beatson, Maytita Ywin, Bandu Ywin & Eugene Ywin and a host of grand and great grand nieces and nephews. Last but not least, Majid Hedayaty, a true and dear friend who made Patricia’s last episode of her life tolerable if not enjoyable. Huge gratitude to Caregiver Cherry Banzuela for the constant, tender loving care provided during Patricia’s critical and difficult hour of need.
Services will be held at National Funeral Home on Saturday September 19th. Visitation will begin at 12pm and the funeral service will start at 1pm. The graveside service will be held at National Memorial Park at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the American Diabetes Association (ADA) will be greatly appreciated.
