On Tuesday, October 6, 2015, Patrick "Rick" Michael Rockelli, returned to God's kingdom survived by many family and friends. These include his beloved wife Lisa; their beloved sons, Andy and Alex; brother Jerry Rockelli; sisters, Laurie Rockelli and Linda Simpson; nephew and nieces, Logan, Amy, and Gina; stepmother, Joan Kirby-Rockelli; and six stepsisters, Allison, Barbara, Cindy, Debbie, Ellen, and Karen. His parents, Commander Jerry Rockelli (USCG) and Carol Winters, predeceased him.
Rick was born on December 22, 1953, grew up in Washington, DC, and became a proud Clipper at Oxon Hill High School. After attending Salisbury University, he taught at Mardela Middle and High School; and then earned degrees from Wharton, Georgetown, and University of Tulsa. He also taught at the University of Virginia.
Rick mostly worked in media in the Washington, DC area for Bloomberg BNA, CQ Roll Call, and the Close Up Foundation. He loved all living things, but most especially dogs. He also supported many charities, including Arlington's Yorktown High School and the American Cancer Society. He enjoyed mentoring youths and helping to shape young lives.
Rick was an accomplished athlete and ran the Boston Marathon, as well as his beloved Marine Corps Marathon many times, crossing the finish line at his favorite place, the Iwo Jima Memorial, with a beautiful view of his city. Rick was caring, always tried to help others, and said he was blessed that so many helped him along the way. He was a true inspiration to his family, in addition to many with whom he worked and played. He lives on through all of us.
A celebration of Rick's life will be held at a future date in spring 2016. In lieu of flowers, please help a neighbor and donate to your favorite charity, the ALS Association, or the American Cancer Society.
