Pramil Suri was born in Lahore, India (now Pakistan) to Dr. Lal Chand Anand and Sumitra Anand on 15th of January 1941. She is the youngest of three siblings and joins her brothers Ashwani Kumar Anand and Kuldeep Chand Anand.
At the age of four, our mom was sadly orphaned and lost both her parents due to an unfortunate incident. For the next nine years of her life, she lived with various relatives, and at the age of thirteen, she was sent to an orphanage. During this period, she was moved around to several orphanages, where, by luck, she met administrators who knew her father and took great care of her.
At the age of sixteen, her eldest brother and guardian, Ashwani Kumar Anand, took her out of the orphanage. As he had established himself, she moved to Solan, Himachal Pradesh, India to live with him.
Our mom’s golden days began on 17th of November 1959, in Solan, when a few months before turning 19 she married our dear dad who was 23. It was an arranged marriage and they met only three or four times before the wedding. Together they formed a beautiful union that lasted 43 years and had three children, Vijay, Neeta, and Jyoti. They shared an eternal and everlasting love which gave mom the strength to continue living her life with grace after he passed in 2002.
Mom traveled with our dad across the globe - Afghanistan, Burkina Faso, Grenada, Barbados, and the US - as dad worked for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) for 35 years. Our mom mirrored our dad’s adventurous spirit and deep respect for all cultures and immersed herself in learning multiple new languages - Farsi, French, and English. She built everlasting deeply rooted bonds of beautiful friendships that have been with her till her final moments.
Our mom was a gracious, kind, and elegant lady who enjoyed hosting parties, cooking, traveling, music, dancing, exercising, playing cards, and building meaningful relationships with individuals of all ages, be it young or old. Her joyful moments were spending time with her family members, grandchildren, and friends who were always like family to her.
Pramil Suri is survived by her children Vijay Suri, Neeta Sharma, and Jyoti Suri and grandchildren Sham Sunder Suri II, Tushant Richie Sharma, Viraj Param Suri, Shivani Sham Gifford, Mahima Sharma, Maansi Mallika Suri, Rohan Vishal Suri, and Theordore Joseph ‘Joe’ Gifford.
Our family wishes to extend our sincere gratitude and eternal love to all our dear family, friends, our mom’s caretakers, and all those who loved her and crossed her path during this earthly journey.
