Raj was born on February 29, 1956, in Chota Shimla, India, to Ujagar Singh “U.S.” Deol and Balwant Kaur Deol. He moved to the United States in 1985 and made his home in Fairfax, Virginia, where he worked hard, raised a family, and built a life filled with love and dedication.
He studied at Modi College and then went on to get his Masters at Patiala University, where he met some of his closest lifelong friends, including Muddi and Dilraj Singh Hundal—also known as Punchi—who later married Rupinder. Those friendships remained strong and meaningful throughout his life.
He is survived by his loving wife, Gurinder, and their children: daughter Lucky and her husband Dave Pelisson; son Ricky; and daughter Preeti and her husband Suleman Khan. He was a proud grandfather to Olivia, Emme, and Lily. He is also survived by his sister Amarjit Sodhi.
Raj was a kind, humble man who put his family first. He loved classic movies on Turner Classic and watching Jus Punjabi Network, always finding joy in familiar stories and songs that reminded him of home. He worked hard his entire life and never asked for much—just the well-being of the people he loved.
He will be deeply missed and remembered always with love.
