Ram Mohan Rao Mummaneni passed away on July 31, 2020, in McLean, VA, surrounded by his wife, Lakshmi Mummaneni, his daughters, Sailaja Raparla, Padmaja Mummaneni, and Vanaja Kanamaluru, his sons-in-law, Siva Raparla and Sridhar Kanamaluru, and his granddaughters, Neha Raparla and Nina Kanamaluru.
Ram Mohan Rao was born on January 15, 1933 in Andhra Pradesh, India. He received his BA from Andhra University and his MA and a law degree from Lucknow University. He worked for the Government of India as a gazetted officer for nearly 35 years until his retirement. For the last 25 years, his home has been in McLean, VA.
Ram Mohan Rao lived his life simply, finding joy in even the smallest of things. He would usually be seen wearing dockers pants (often dragging on the ground), a button-down shirt (sometimes frayed at the wrist), one of his beloved caps, and a gentle smile. He never asked for anything but gave so much. He was like the candle that consumed itself to light the way for others. He worked hard and raised a family with his wife of over 60 years. He was a loving father to his daughters as well as his sons-in-law. His granddaughters, however, were his greatest pride and joy; they could do no wrong in his eyes. He was full of questions for all those he met but never failed to listen to and advise anyone in need. Above all, his gentleness was his strength. Ram Mohan Rao will be missed by all those he left behind, but his gentleness and love will stay on.
A private funeral service will be held on August 5, 2020. Condolences may be provided at the website for the National Funeral Home and National Memorial Park.
Those who live in the heart of others never die.
