

Randy Franklin Buchanan was born on October 18, 1955, in Charleston, West Virginia to George and Mona Buchanan. He passed away on January 11, 2025, at age 69 after an extended illness in Herndon, VA. He grew up in Dunbar, West Virginia and went to Elk Electronic School in Crede, WV where he received a two-year degree in Electronics. He began his career working for local Radio and TV stations as a Station Repair Technician. In the late 1970’s he relocated to Silver Springs, MD for a chance to work for larger corporations. That is where he met his wife, Carol, and got married in June 1985.
Known for his resourcefulness and ingenuity, he was a self-taught Software Programmer and Developer specializing in Embedded networking system software. He worked for several companies over the years including Netrix Corporation, Advanced Simulation Technology Inc. and NSG Datacom.
Around 2010, Randy relocated to the West coast in Fort Bragg, CA. about 2.5 miles from the Pacific coast, Besides the apple trees and redwood, there was a string of wineries and breweries in the area that he enjoyed.
When he was not sipping craft beer or wine and watching Sci-Fi shows, Randy was an avid reader of Science Fiction, History and Eastern Religions. A devoted Buddhist, Randy found joy in meditation, yoga and sharing the teachings with his friends. Randy loved traveling and spent many trips with friends, visiting multiple states and countries including Thailand, Nepal, India, England, and Mexico. He enjoyed the mountains and beaches of Northern California the most.
He was preceded in death by his parents and survived by his sister Deborah Cremeans and her husband Rick of Charlotte, NC.
