Rebecca Jane Ferrer

Rebecca was born on March 15, 1963, to James and Mary June Charlton in Kettering, OH.

In 1985, she graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in Accounting. While she eventually left Ohio and never looked back, she brought with her an enduring love of Cincinnati-style chili and Ohio’s signature buckeyes, a dessert made from peanut butter dipped in chocolate.

The only thing Rebecca loved more than peanut butter and chocolate was her family. In 1982, she met Mark Ferrer while they were both working at IBM. Rebecca was already seeing somebody, and Mark, after walking her home from a party, told her to call him if that ever changed. They were wed in 1986. Together, they had four children, Nicholas, Michael, Abigail, and William. Rebecca always said her dream was to have four children before she turned 32, and she did by a matter of days.

After the birth of her children, Rebecca stayed home to raise them. She was an especially devoted mother and, as the family matriarch, she wore many hats: she was, at any given moment, a chauffeur, a cook, an entertainer, a cosmetologist, a nurse, a too-committed pimple popper, a therapist, a co-conspirator, a consigliere, and a friend. In 34 years, she never took a day off. She ran PTAs and carpools. She could do anything and everything... except swim in open water or hold in her laughter at the sound of a fart.

Rebecca loved dogs, board games, puzzles, movies, movie popcorn, Bruno Mars, pickleball, People Magazine, books of all kinds, the Isle of Palms golf cart parade, “Dancing with the Stars,” long walks, shopping, and she especially loved Diet Coke. In her final years, she made it her mission to visit as many National Parks as possible. At the time of her death, she had visited 40 of the 63.

Rebecca is survived by her husband Mark Ferrer; her children Michael (Joan) Ferrer, Abigail (Alexandra) Ferrer, and William Ferrer; her grandson, Theodore Ferrer; her father, James Charlton; and her siblings, Roberta (Kurt) Kleinow, Robert (Cindy) Charlton, and Brooks Charlton. She is preceded in death by her son Nicholas Ferrer and her mother Mary June Charlton.

A visitation will be held at National Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 7482 Lee Hwy, Falls Church, VA on Sunday 8/16, from 10am-2pm. A celebration of life will follow immediately after at Matchbox Pizza, 2911 District Ave Ste 120, Fairfax, VA.
