Richard Lynn Scott Jr.

Richard made full use of his name, being called by others as Dick, Lynn, Scotty, and Junior.

Richard was born in Olivet, Illinois to Richard Lynn and Mary Naomi Scott on June 26, 1925. He went to school in Muncie, Indiana. He married Mary Jean Beck on June 24, 1947 in Muncie. Mary Jean passed in 2008 and he married Judy Ann Smith on May 31, 2010. He graduated from Olivet Nazarene College (University).

He worked as a Regional Representative for the DOD Wage Fixing Authority. He served stateside in the Army toward and after the end of WWII. After his service in the Army, he worked at Joliet Arsenal, in Illinois. He moved his family and career to Huntington, West Virginia to work for the Corps of Engineers. From the Corp of Engineers, he moved to the Washington DC area to work at the Pentagon and then to Alexandria to work for the DOD.

He was involved in the Church of the Nazarene serving in many capacities including leading singing, Sunday school, as a board member among other “duties as assigned”.

He enjoyed bowling, fishing, and had a long time passion for fixing cars. That passion led to another of his ministries in working on the cars of his fellow church members.

Dick is preceded in death by his parents, Richard Lynn Sr, Mary Naomi, Viola (stepmother), Mary Poole (sister), and Mary Jean. He is also preceded in death by one great-grandchild, Matthew.

Dick is survived by Judy, Dennis (son) and Linda, Duane (son) and Evie, Mary Lynn (daughter) and a sister, Rosella Fisher. He is also survived by eight grand-children Traci, Jeff, Jeremy, Amber, Brittny, Cayla, Amie and Meagan as well as 29 great-grand-children and two great-great-grandchildren, all of whom were very much loved by Grandpa Scott. Also surviving are seven nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to Olivet Nazarene University (in lieu of flowers).

Celebration of Life visitation (10 AM) and service (11 AM) will be held on the 26th of September at Calvary Church of the Nazarene, located at 8220 Little River Turnpike, Annandale, VA. A private service for the family will be held at King David Memorial Gardens.
