

Bob was born in Washington, D.C., to Albert and Virginia Alberi on May 21, 1947. He attended St. Michael’s Elementary School in Annandale, VA, and later graduated from Gonzaga College High School in Washington, D.C. He earned a degree in Sociology from Wheeling Jesuit College in Wheeling, WV. On May 3, 1986, Bob married Anne Watermeier, his beloved wife of 39 years, and together they raised three children: Kimberly, Michael, and Jessica.
In 1971, Bob joined the United States Secret Service as a Special Agent and was assigned to the Charleston, WV, field office where he spent his first three years investigating counterfeit operations. In 1973, he returned to the Washington, D.C., area and continued his distinguished career for the next 28 years. Bob served on the Presidential Protective details for Presidents Nixon, Ford, and Carter, as well as the Dignitary Protective details for Queen Elizabeth II, Pope John Paul II, and various other foreign dignitaries. His career also included liaison positions with the FBI, the U.S. Capitol, and the White House.
Bob retired from the Secret Service in 1999 and continued his public service at the U.S. Department of State as a liaison to the White House and the U.S. Capitol. In this role, he coordinated visits for the Secretary of State and foreign ministers until his final retirement in 2017.
Throughout his long and honorable career, Bob was highly regarded and received numerous commendations. Notable among them were letters of commendation from President Gerald Ford for his professionalism and bravery during the 1975 assassination attempt by Sara Jane Moore, from President Ronald Reagan for his service during Queen Elizabeth II’s visit to California, from President Bill Clinton for his coordination of the 1993 Presidential Inauguration at the U.S. Capitol, and from the Director of the Secret Service for his bravery during the 1994 White House shooting by Francisco Duran.
Bob was a devoted husband, proud father and grandfather, and a cherished friend to many. He is preceded in death by his parents, Virginia and Albert Alberi, and his brother, Albert Alberi. He is survived by his wife, Anne Louise Alberi; his children, Kimberly Alberi, Michael Alberi, and Jessica Alberi; and his granddaughter, Isla.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2025, and a Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, March 14, 2025. Further details on these services are provided below."
