Robert Carter was born in Sheffield, Alabama to Femster Alderson Carter and Beatrice Wilson on July 15, 1926. Wanting to fight for his country in World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17. He met his late wife, Lorna May “Bonnie” Meyer at a U. S. O. Halloween party, and it was, as he always said, love at first sight. They were engaged to be married before he shipped out for the Pacific. Overseas, he earned several medals, including the Asiatic Pacific Campaign medal and the Philippine Liberation medal. After WWII ended, he and Bonnie were married at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in St. Louis on August 30, 1947. They lived in Birmingham, Alabama when Bob completed his degree at Birmingham Southern and went on to accept a commission as a Special Agent with the F.B.I. in 1951. He continued to work in the F.B.I. in Kansas, Michigan, and Washington D.C. where he taught law enforcement and was eventually made the Number One Man of the F.B.I. National Academy. He continued on to Hawaii where he was the Assistant Special Agent in Charge and then moved to Alaska where he became the Special Agent in Charge. In 1980, he retired from the F.B.I. and moved with Bonnie to Canyon Lake, Texas. For the next 30 years, Bob kept himself busy with a successful career as a real estate broker before eventually moving to Ashburn, Virginia to live closer to his son. He was strong in his Christian faith and lived a wonderful, fulfilling life. His friends and family will greatly miss him.
