Robert Elmo Duggar, 82, of Falls Church, Virginia, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 26, 2026. Born on January 9, 1944, in Lawton, Oklahoma, Robert lived a life defined by service, strength, and steadfast devotion — to his community, his family, and his country. He was a man of deep conviction and quiet capability, the kind of person others turned to without hesitation, knowing he would never let them down.
In 1962, Robert left Oklahoma and made his way to Northern Virginia to attend George Mason to study civil engineering — a move that would shape the rest of his life. It was there that he met the love of his life, Martha Ann Hedges. He went on to serve his country with distinction as a Captain in the United States Army Field Artillery, stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and Fort Benning, Georgia. His military service instilled in him a sense of duty and discipline that would remain the bedrock of his character throughout his life.
Following his honorable service, Robert returned home to Lawton, Oklahoma, earning his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Cameron College — a testament to the drive and determination that defined everything he undertook. He went on to build a distinguished career as a analyst at IBM, where he served with the same dedication he had brought to the Army, retiring on January 31, 1999, after decades of exemplary service. But retirement did not mean slowing down. For the next decade, Robert channeled his analytical expertise and his deep commitment to constitutional principles into his work with Gun Owners of America, where he led state and federal election scoring — a role that placed him at the intersection of civic responsibility and the rights he held dear.
Beyond his professional life, Robert was a man of rich and varied passions. Since 1977, he was a licensed amateur radio operator — call sign WD4MXW — a hobby that connected him to a worldwide community of fellow enthusiasts and spoke to his love of technical mastery. He was an avid hunter, marksman, fisherman, and outdoorsman who found deep satisfaction in the natural world. That same love of the land extended to his garden, where he cultivated vibrant flowers that adorned the family home and seasonal vegetables that graced their table — a quieter but equally devoted expression of his connection to the earth.
Yet Robert was equally at home at the workbench as he was in the field. His passion for target shooting and the precision craft of reloading spoke to a man who valued discipline, patience, and mastery in all things. A dedicated relic hunter as well, he had a gift for uncovering the stories the earth kept hidden — pursuits that wove together his love of history, the outdoors, and the satisfaction of a steady, skilled hand. Robert was a devoted Christian and faithfully attended Cornerstone Chapel in Leesburg, Virginia, and he was a proud member of Mount Scott Lodge No. 540, A.F. & A.M. in Lawton, Oklahoma.
Robert is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Martha Ann Duggar; his three children, Tara Rodas and her husband Jorge Rodas, Lori Sheppard, and Robert Duggar; his cherished mother, Wilma Duggar; and his siblings, Patricia Riddle, Charles Duggar, and Sharon James. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and character that will endure in the lives of all who knew him.
Visitation, Funeral Service, and Reception will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Murphy Funeral Home in Falls Church, VA. Events will begin at 11 AM EST and will be live streamed for those unable to attend in person (http://bit.ly/4tv8JuE). Robert will be laid to rest with full military honors at Culpeper National Cemetery in Culpeper, Virginia on Friday, May 22, 2026, at 10 AM EST. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Robert’s memory are encouraged to consider a gift in his name to an organization or charity of their choice.
“Strong, dependable, and faithful — a man who answered every call.”
