

Robert White Sr., born on September 5, 1944, in Washington, DC, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Thelma White; his brothers Lou Piron, Sonny Richerson, John White, and Leighton White; and his nephews, Josh White and Jason White.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Shelya; his sons, Steven White (Claudia) and Robbie White (Heather); and his cherished grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Addison, Willow, and Greyson. He also leaves behind his sister, Anna Thomas; his brothers, Chris White (Lynn) and Alex White (Becky); along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Robert’s dedication to education was evident throughout his life. He attended Glenelg High School in Clarksville, MD, and pursued higher education at Montgomery College (1971), Salisbury State University (1973), Marymount University Graduate School (1992), and George Mason University Graduate School (1996), where he studied Physical Science, Geography, and Information Systems Management.
Robert began his federal career as a temporary GS-5 Environmental Scientist at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for The Clean Lakes Program. His first permanent federal appointment was as a GS-5 Physical Scientist at the Defense Mapping Agency. Through hard work and dedication, he advanced through multiple positions and agencies, ultimately achieving the rank of GS-15 as a Systems Manager/Transition Manager. After retiring from federal service, he continued his contributions in the private sector, working under government contracts for companies such as Northrop Grumman.
His professional career was distinguished by numerous achievements. He received multiple letters of appreciation, was named the Defense Mapping Agency’s "Suggester of the Month," and earned Special Act Awards in 1986, 1990, 1995, and 1998. His Director's Quality Improvement Award in 1994 resulted in a $3 million savings for his agency. From 1987 to 1998, he earned annual performance awards, including Outstanding Performance in 1989 and 1990.
Robert proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, earning the National Defense Service Medal and the Sharpshooter M-14 Award. His love of country was second only to his love of family.
A dedicated Freemason, Robert was raised in Columbia Lodge No. 285 on July 12, 1993. He served as Master of the lodge in 1999 and as District Deputy Grand Master of the 54th Masonic District in 2013. He was also a member of A. Douglas Smith, Jr. Research Lodge No. 1949, Cherrydale-Columbia Lodge No. 42, and The Patriot Lodge No. 1957. Additionally, he served as
Grand Representative of Australia and was a six-time Worthy Patron of Unity Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.
Beyond his professional and Masonic commitments, Robert had many passions. He loved fishing and working in his shop, where he created jewelry, ornaments, and metalwork. An avid reader and lifelong learner, he embraced new experiences, including winemaking and brewing beer. He had an enduring love for history—American, world, and family history were always a focus for him. Music and travel also brought him great joy. His boundless curiosity and enthusiasm for life were truly inspiring.
Robert White Sr. lived a life filled with purpose, love, and adventure. His legacy of passion, learning, and dedication to family will continue to inspire all who knew him.
May he rest in peace, knowing that his life was well-lived and his memory will be cherished forever.
