Ron was born on October 17th in New York City to Bessie and Charlie Bruno. He is survived by his sister, Virginia Rodriguez; nephew Edward Rodriguez and his spouse Sara; niece Renee Carton and her husband James; and two grand-nephews / one grandniece Tyler, Brayden, and Serena Rodriguez.
Ron received his bachelor’s degree in Accounting from New York Institute of Technology and, shortly after graduating, voluntarily joined the Air Force where he worked in the Administrative Offices of the Medic Department at McGuire Air Force Base during the Vietnam War. After completing his service, he returned to New York and became an accountant for the City of New York. Ron remained in Astoria, commuting to Manhattan, which allowed him to care for his mother and Aunt Fay. He remained a City employee for the duration of his career before enjoying retirement.
After 67 years of being a New Yorker, Ron moved south to Virginia in 2011 to be closer to his family. While living in Virginia, he never lost his love for a good bagel, his support for the Yankees, or his New York accent.
Ron was more than an older brother to Virginia: he was a true friend. He was also more than an Uncle to Edward and Renee: he was often like a second father, showing them encouragement, generosity, and loving them unconditionally.
Ron was a friend to everyone he met, loving to tell a good story about the “old neighborhood” as well as sharing a good joke. He loved making others laugh and could always be heard whistling or humming a tune. While in Astoria, he enjoyed countless hours sitting on the bench, enjoying the company of friends at Queensview. After moving to Virginia, he enjoyed having conversations over a cup of coffee with his friends at Lansdowne Woods. Ron loved exchanging jokes with Brayden and Serena this past year. They always brought a smile to his face, as well as to theirs.
Ron once said, “Draw on the good times to get you through these emotional times. In time, this will be more bearable.” We hope all who loved him can heed Ron’s words.
Ron will forever be in our hearts and will be deeply missed.
Ron will be laid to rest in St. Michael's Cemetery, New York City. There are no services scheduled at this time.
Another Leaf Has Fallen
Another leaf has fallen,
another soul has gone.
But still we have God’s promises,
in every robin’s song.
For he is in His heaven,
and though He takes away,
He always leaves to mortals,
the bright sun’s kindly ray.
He leaves the fragrant blossoms,
and lovely forest, green.
And gives us new found comfort,
when we on Him will lean.
