

Rosa was born in Cairo Mississippi to Ellen and Jessie Sleigh on October 16, 1931. She matriculated through the New York City school system. She graduated from The City College of New York. She was divorced. She had a long career with the Federal Government that spanned over 40 years. She retired after 40 years of service as the Director of Travel Passports for the Department of Army. While there, she worked for Generals and other known dignitaries. She was also the recipient of many awards, citations and honors during her service.
Rosa was a committed member of the community where she lived for the last 50 years of her life. She was a volunteer for the Annandale Virginia Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years. Her special area was Bingo Night. She loved attending the annual Volunteer Fire Departments Ball. Rosa successfully received her Commonwealth of Virginia Certified Real Estate Sales License. She was one the first African American woman to begin selling real estate in Annandale Virginia. In her first year she had over a million dollars in sales.
To ensure that her only grandchild Christian, who was born with a developmental challenge, interacted with as many young people of different backgrounds and challenges, Rosa went through the intense process to become an approved Foster Parent in Fairfax County Virginia. Through this program she lovingly opened her home to care for many children over 15 years. Rosa was preceded in death by her parents Ellen and Jesse Sleigh her siblings Bunetta “Bunny” Sleigh, Ethel Cain and Gerard Sleigh and her beloved son Darryl S. Jenkins.
Rosa is survived by her Daughter Cidney G. Jenkins, her Granddaughter Christian Dickerson, many nieces, nephews and adopted family members.
