Sara Kay Becker, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on August 26, 2026, in Ashburn, Virginia, and reunited at last with her husband Rodney, who had preceded her in death in 2021.
Sara was born in Washington, D.C., and grew up between Kingsport, Tennessee, and Falls Church, Virginia, where she graduated from Falls Church High School. Her Tennessee twang and country sayings were part of her considerable charm, and she carried them with her for the rest of her life. After high school, Sara went to work at the Pentagon, where she met a handsome sailor named Rodney Herman Becker. They fell in love, married on March 28, 1959, in Falls Church, Virginia, and spent the next sixty-two years building a life together.
Sara was a dedicated wife, mother, and homemaker. She made sure there was always room at the table, and always plenty of food prepared, just in case. Her apple roll dessert was a family legend. She was active in her church, Graham Road United Methodist, and had the opportunity to travel with a church group, experiences she treasured deeply. When grandchildren came along, Sara became Grama. She loved her grandchildren ferociously. They could do no wrong in her eyes.
Sara is survived by her son, James Randolph "Randy" Becker and his wife Darby; her daughter, Tamara Lynn "Tammy" Cox and her husband Stephen; and five grandchildren: Addison and Ashton Becker, and Lily, Kylan, and Chloe Cox. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rodney Herman Becker.
Services will be held on September 17, 2026 at 11 am at Murphy Funeral Home in Falls Church, Virginia followed by internment at National Memorial Cemetery.
