Sara was born on December 15, 1968, in Bridgeport, CT, to Barbara (Jackson) and Edward LeMoine. She went to high school in D.C. and attended the University of Maryland. She was married to her long-time partner Brian Murphy in 2012. She is survived by Brian, her brother John Semonich, and her sister Debbie Semonich.
Sara's deep love for animals began as a child, growing up with her father’s guide dogs. She volunteered and worked for many animal welfare organizations during her life. Her true vocation was to help and educate people on how to be better caretakers of animals. The 4Paws Rescue Team was especially important to her. She volunteered there as an adoption counselor and usually had one or more foster pets living with her at any time.
Sara was proud of her family and their French-Canadian heritage. The LeMoines also played a part in the founding of New Orleans. Her ancestor Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville, was the first governor of Louisiana in 1718.
Sara was passionate about sports. Growing up in Bridgeport, she was drawn to the New York teams, especially the Yankees and the Rangers. Her favorite athlete is Mark Messier, the Rangers captain who led them to a Stanley Cup victory in 1994. She was in Madison Square Garden for his last home game in March of 2004 and returned for his retirement ceremony the following year. Sara played hockey herself, often joining Brian on the ice. She also skied, cycled, and played tennis and golf. Sara and Brian rode from the Missouri River to the Mississippi in the Ride Across Iowa in 2019. She recently ran the National Cherry Blossom Festival 5K race.
