Saroj Lamba

Saroj was born in Sargoda, Pakistan to Ram Lal Varma and Indira Varma on March 3, 1947. Her family relocated to New Delhi, India during the partition in 1947. As the daughter of a diplomat, she had the opportunity to experience different cultures, spending five years in Cairo, Egypt and three years in Lusaka, Zambia. Saroj graduated from college in Kirti Nager, New Delhi and married Amrik Lamba on July 26, 1969. Although the anniversary date has been a playful point of dispute between Saroj and Amrik ever since, due to the lengthy marriage ceremonies in India.

Saroj and Amrik migrated to the United States in 1971 to seek better opportunities for themselves and their family. Shortly after settling, they opened their home and supported many family members so they too could pursue educational and career opportunities in the United States.

During those early years, Saroj worked in retail, banks, and held administrative positions where she established many life-long friends. She managed her work commitments, raised three beautiful children, and hosted extended family.

Saroj was a loving, caring and dedicated wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend, daughter, and grandmother. She had a great passion for jewelry and all things sweet! She was a genuine and kind woman who got joy from doing things for others. Her hobbies included embroidery and gifting sentimental creations to her family and close friends. She loved flowers and was skilled in taking care of plants. Her compassionate nature would always shine through and naturally catch the attention of others by her elegance and charisma.

Saroj is survived by her husband, Amrik, her children, Sanjay, Risha, Nisha, and Sonu, her grandsons, Jaigan and Akash, her siblings and her many brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nephews and nieces.

A funeral service for Saroj will be held Monday, March 18, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at National Funeral Home, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042.

Gurdwara services will be held afterward, followed by langar.
