

Mr. Husain belonged to a distinguished family of academics, writers and journalists. He studied at the University of Karachi and later did his BSc in economics at the London School of Economics, and Masters in Development Economics from Williams College in the United States. Shahid joined the Civil Service of Pakistan in 1956. In 1963, he moved to the United States and joined the World Bank. He retired from the World Bank as the Senior Vice President. He also served as an adviser on finance in the Z.A. Bhutto government from 1976-77.
Shahid and Nigar had three children: Ayesha, Aliya and Ameen. They loved to host other family and friends visiting from Pakistan and around the world. They helped numerous friends and family get their start in America and maintained close ties to their loved ones in Pakistan and around the world. Shahid loved his granddaughters Mishal Powers and Maeve Husain. He was also an avid gardener.
Shahid is survived by his wife and three children, a daughter-in-law, two grandchildren and numerous extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Nigar's parents and a son-in-law Terry Powers.
