Sylvia Selwyn Cymes

Sylvia Selwyn Cymes, 73, of Annandale, Va., passed away peacefully Sept. 20, 2011, at her home. She is survived by her children Francoise (Calvin) Kieschnick, Jean “Jano” (Valerie) Cymes, Robert Cymes, Suzanne Shalewitz and grandchildren Cristi Burrage, Joshua Kieschnick, Sarah Shalewitz, Daniel Cymes, Juliana Cymes and three great grandchildren. Sylvia was a devoted mother and grandmother. She taught French for more than 30 years for the Fairfax County Public Schools. She received her master’s degree at George Mason University and she was a life member of Hadassah and ORT. She was also active in Sisterhood, JCC, Broyhill Crest Community and in her temple. Sylvia loved to travel, meet new people, and attend theater. She was outgoing and loved life. Funeral services will be held Friday Sept. 23, 2011, at 2 p.m., at Beth El Hebrew Congregation, 3830 Seminary Rd., Alexandria, Va., 22304. Burial will immediately follow at King David Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Hadassah or Beth El Hebrew Congregation.
