Teresa Lim passed away peacefully on May 7, 2026, at Goodwin House at Bailey’s Crossroads, Virginia. Born on March 4, 1938, in Zamboanga City, Philippines, she was the third of ten children and the eldest daughter.
Inspired by the care she received during a childhood hospital stay, Teresa pursued nursing at a time when opportunities for women were limited. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from St. Luke's School of Nursing in Quezon City, the Philippines, and continued her studies throughout life, eventually earning a master’s degree in gerontology and becoming a Nurse Practitioner.
In 1963, Teresa immigrated to the United States, where she met Benjamin Lim in Lawrence, Kansas. They married in 1965. In 1970, they moved to Virginia, where they raised their son Steve and daughter Julie (husband Jonathan). They also became the proud grandparents to twin granddaughters, Iris and Lily.
Known for her outgoing and sociable personality, Teresa loved staying active through ballroom dancing, tai chi, swimming, water aerobics, and hiking. An avid reader and passionate gardener, she participated in both her book club and garden club. She especially loved monarch butterflies, carefully nurturing caterpillars and sharing the joy of releasing butterflies with school children.
A devoted Catholic, Teresa was a member of the Catholic community of St John the Beloved Catholic Church, McLean, VA.
Teresa will be remembered for her warmth, energy, compassion, and deep love for family, friends, and lifelong learning. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
