Terry Coleman Hillerich passed away Saturday, January 24, 2015. Terry was born in Washington, DC on December 23, 1949. He attended Washington Lee High School and graduated from Bridgewater College with a Bachelor of Arts in physical education. He is survived by his devoted wife of 37 years, Judy; his loving children, Tre (35), Diana (34), Brian (32), and Chris (30); and his grandchildren, Taylor (13), Emma (12), Adriana (7), Kennedy (6), Leo (5), Lee (4), Reagan (2), and Lincoln (1 month).

Terry was a proud supporter and treasurer for Friends of Arlington Parks, a volunteer group of private citizens who share an interest in preserving and extending the Arlington, VA public park system. He was also a very proud member of the motorcycle community, devoting the past decade to teaching and maintaining the Motorcycle Rider Training Program at NVCC. His dedication is captured in a message from Esther S. Parantoni, Director of the Design & Implementation Workforce Development Division at Northern Virginia Community College:

"Terry has been with the college for years and we not only came to rely on his expertise and years of knowledge, we also came to love him as part of the NOVA family. We will miss him very much. And we want you to know how much he has set the standard for safety and expertise in our motorcycle program. He worked tirelessly, not only to provide the best program, but because he believed in the program and making a difference in people's lives. His loyally to serving others is exceptional. He would always step in to pick up a class when an instructor cancelled, and he was always there to ensure new instructors were on-boarded into the teaching realm. His loyalty put him through long hours and in all sorts of weather and he never complained. And his loyalty has undoubtedly saved the lives of hundreds of students who learned from him."

A memorial fundraiser has been established to support Terry's family. The funds will help cover funeral expenses and basic needs to help them get through this difficult time. The fundraiser can be found at the following address:

One of the nicest and most compassionate human beings I've ever had the pleasure of saddens me to hear of his passing. Terry was fun to be around and I'm thankful for the many rides we shared together. He was a great man, kind-hearted and genuine. May God bring peace and comfort to his wife and family. RIP my friend...until we ride together again.

On behalf of the Friends of Arlington Parks and personally, I would like to express our deep sorrow in learning of Terry's passing. We would like to thank you for sharing him with us. He served as Treasurer of our organization until his death but was far more valuable for his knowledge of Arlington and Virginia parks and their history. We valued Terry's wisdom and advice on all matters. Terry continued as Treasurer even though he no longer had the time nor energy to attend meetings but he never failed to comment by email on critical park issues. The park community and Arlington will feel his absence.

There are no words to express the sadness in my heart. My last memory of Terry and Judy was at an annual Hog Ball banquet. Terry's smile and laughter lit up our table. I met Terry many years ago through Manassas HOG and the Motorcycle Safety Program. I'll miss his safety tips. My thoughts and prayers are with Terry's family today and always.

Eight years ago Terry's son Tre married our daughter Elisa. We not only gained a wonderful son-in-law but also were blessed to become part of his family. Terry was not only a great husband and father but was a wonderful grandfather. The four grandchildren we shared brought us together on many wonderful occasions. He just loved those kids! He is an inspiration to all grandparents! We are here for you and the family, Judy. God Bless you Terry, rest in peace.
