It has been two years and we still miss you, anh Tuan!

We have been clients of Tuan for decades, and over that time he also became a trusted friend who we enjoyed working and speaking with. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. We are so, so sorry for your loss. He was a man of high integrity and professionalism, and always gave thoughtful and useful advice to his clients. We also got to know him a personally over the years, and he spoke often of his family and was especially proud of his daughter.  I always enjoyed his dry sense of humor, which he often mixed in with financial advice. It is a loss for all who knew and worked with him. Please let us know if there is anything we can do, and if he supported a certain cause or charity.

The news of Tuan's death certainly came as a shock to me, reminding me just how ephemeral life can be.  While I know both Tuan and his wife Mai,  I also know Mai's side of the family.  

I like to recount a celebration event some time ago, with Tuan as one of the organizers.  If I exaggerate or forget some key details, please forgive my lapse of memory.  At the beginning of the event, Tuan came up to the microphone and welcomed the guests and thanked all the organizers, and went on with his speech.  If you know Tuan, he likes to talk, and if you know me, I like to eat.  As Tuan went on with his speech, my stomach started growling, and growling...

Hopefully, I was able to bring a smile to an otherwise very sad moment in our lives - the death of a loved one.  Tuan's voice will be missed by his friends, and certainly by his family.  I offer my sincere condolences to Tuan's family. 
    

Dear chi Mai and cháu Mai-Anh, I am anh Tuan's fifth cousin removed on co Lưu side. I saw him only once in his life time at cô's 80th grand bỉrthday celebration. I just know that he liked orchids enough to own a floral shop. A hard working husband and dad is hard to come by in this modern time. I am saddened with you by  his abrupt passing. We are gathering here today to bid you goodbye, but that’s a task that I would never be prepared for. As your sister-in-law for the past 25 years, I have got to know you and think of you as my own brother.  It is heartbreaking to think of the coming days, not seeing your tall commanding figure, listening to your thorough analysis on different topics with your deep and soothing voice. You have instilled in us your passion for orchids, fishing and life in general. You’ve shown great love for the people in your life, especially chị Mai and Mai Anh. Everything that you did, you did with detail and strife for perfection. We will miss you very much, as you were involved in many parts of our lives, including taking trips together, and singing in our band. We will miss hearing you belt out your favorite songs like Can’t Help Falling in Love or Còn Yêu Em Mãi, or trying new songs. You were a gentle giant, big and tall but sensitive and thoughtful. Who would have thought that you would be taken away from your beautiful family and from us so quickly and so soon? Please rest assured that chị Mai and Mai Anh will always be surrounded with love by both sides of the family and friends.

Thank you for sharing the livestream link that allowed your extended family and I to witness this beautiful, dignified farewell ceremony to our beloved Tuan. Although my wife and I couldn't personally attend in respect of the family's desire to limit the number of attendees and mitigate the risk of a super spreader event, we will certainly come by to visit Tuan at his final resting place some time during our next visit to Northern VA.

It was only 2 months ago, in November of last year, that we saw Tuan and Mai and a few of our high school classmates in Washington. We had a joyful lunch reunion at a Viet place in Falls Church, VA, but little did I know that it would be the last time I would see my dear cousin and friend :-((((( 
I will forever cherish our last picture together.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Tuan's loved ones, especially Thim' Luu, Mai, and Mai Anh in the days ahead. May Buddha and the Providence grant you the strength and courage in this challenging moment. We will be right beside to support you at all times.

We cherish the good memories of the family dinners we were able to share together when we visited Virginia.  Anh Tuan’s smile is unforgettable, his kindness and love for all shines through.  May his spirit rest in peace.

Again, I missed seeing you today.  
Nine years ago, in 2013, uncle Hông-Phong Pho took me to see you at your orchid showroom in VA but you were not there. I thought that I would have another chance to meet you and we would be able to share the love for orchids. 
Now I realized that I missed the chance to meet you in this life. 
My uncles, aunts and cousins around told me that you are a very smart man with a kind heart, and how much they love you. You lived a great life. 
All of us will eventually go to the Sunset Boulervard one day. Now you left your mother bà Am and your family to join your father and our ancestors in the other world. Rest in peace, chú Tuân’! You will be in our family memory forever.

When I moved my family to Virginia to start a new job, Tuấn invited us to celebrate festivities like the Lunar New Year with his family, treating us like his own family members.  I was so proud of his caring attitude and generosity.  Over the years, we grew closer to each other, so when he started his orchid flower business, my wife and I volunteered to help him.  I was his handy man, building all the fixtures with lights so he can grow orchids in his showroom, dismantled them and taking them with the flowers to the Flower Show and Gardens in Washington DC to set them up in the booth to sell the orchid flowers.  I was also his trusted driver, driving 17ft trucks to haul all the fixtures and flowers to and from the shows for many many years.  Besides business, we also spent many years vacationing at beach houses in the Outer Banks, we go out for days fishing with Tuấn and many times came back with ... no fish, but we really had fun !  I will always remember fish stories when he tried to "strech" a fish to meet the minimum size regulation, so that he won't be fined by the warden !
I will always remember these good memories with my dear friend, especially times when we organize reunions for alumni in our high school, Tuấn was a very valuable key member of the organizing committee, we would not have succeeded without Tuấn's skills in planning, negotiating and solving problems.
Tuấn always have a big smile under his bushy mustache, he bring joy and fun to each party that we attended with him.
I will miss my friend very dearly, I wish this was like a dream in "Dallas" when I wake up in the morning and Tuấn will still be there.

Tuan was introduced to me over 25 years ago by a friend who knew I needed an accountant.  I have counted on him ever since and am deeply grieved by his passing. However, I am gratified to learn that he had such a rich and rewarding life, as I learned            when I attended his service on January 28.

Nguyễn Phó Quốc Tuấn was my first cousin, the third son of my father's younger sister, aunt Phúc Am. He was born March 17, 1956 in Saigon, Vietnam and was claimed by COVID on January 21, 2022 in Vienna, Virginia. I remember him as a gentle giant who always seems happy and contented. He loved things of beauty, and he loved to sing. As children, I always looked forward to visiting him each summer in the big city where he kept a huge aquarium full of exquisite tropical fish and a wall full of the most colorful orchids. I remember being so happy when he generously told me to pick out some fish I liked. In America, he continued his passion for orchids by starting a small specialty business named "Orchids for You" that offered some hard to find specimens. There he spent much of his time sharing his expertise with fellow orchid enthusiasts when he was not serving clients of his financial services business. Most of all, he loved his wife, Mai, and his daughter Mai Anh, whom he adored. Rest in Peace, dear cousin.

I've lost count of how many times Bác Tuấn was there for a gathering, family trip, or even for a casual visit. When I needed a gift for my significant other's family, he was there with his splendid orchid shop . When the family sang karaoke late into the night, he was there singing along without a care in the world. When we would go on extended family vacations, he was there at the front of the pack with bố. He's always been an upbeat, happy presence that we all took for granted and the smiles and tears he left behind became so much more bittersweet.

The only thing that matched his love for a great time would be his love for his family. It's so rare and beautiful to see a father wholeheartedly support his daughter in everything, from academics to hobbies. It is also no less beautiful for a husband to work so hard to make his wife smile every day. The laughs they had and jokes they made as a family would make anyone envious of their bond.

Simply said, there is not a single day that will go by without us missing him. We will hold all of these memories dear and do our best to smile from here on out. Thank you for everything, Bác Tuấn.

I don't have many memories of Chú Tuấn, but the ones I do have are wonderful ones. 

I vaguely remember walking into his orchid shop when I was a little kid with both of my parents. It was humid and sticky - the way orchids like. I remember Chú Tuấn greeting us with a bright smile, and him keeping that smile despite the seemingly long stretch of time my dad talked with him. 

I have never again had that amount of time to enjoy a vast array of orchids. Each one happy and healthy under his care. 

Another memory I have is of Chú Tuấn and Cô Mai's wedding anniversary dinner. It was a very fun night, filled with friends, family, food, laughter. I'll never forget how impressed I was by Chú Tuấn's rendition of Elvis Presley's "Can't Help Falling In Love". 

A final memory I have to share are the memories of Chú Tuấn's family. After coming to celebrate my birthday, my mother always told me to cherish them for their generosity and their presence.

Although few, I hope my memories of and feelings toward Chú Tuấn can attest to the person he was. To me, though I knew little of him, he was a man with an incredibly sweet family, a bright smile, and a kind heart.

My heart is filled with sorrows over the loss of one so loved by all. Tuấn was like a brother to me, generous, attentive, easygoing. He always made sure my plate was full and my wine glass never empty at family gatherings for good food, great fun, and karaoke singing. Oh, and he could sing with such passion! Sleep well gentle soul!

Chu Tuan was filled with so much love and laughter, from his wedding day to the holidays and every day in between. I will always remember his epic karaoke skills where he belt out classics, lighting up the room, and begging all of us shy nieces to join him. On my now fiancés first trip with the family in 2018, Chu Tuan was doing karaoke (obviously) singing a love song, pointing at PJ and getting everyone to chant ‘kiss her kiss her!’ Blushing, PJ gave me a kiss on the cheek and we got a roar of applause. Chu Tuan was the best jokester but always had a way of making everyone feel special and included. Although I am heartbroken, every memory I have of Chu Tuan brings a huge grin to my face and I know that’s how his memory will live on.

I’ll always remember Chu Tuan as the life of every family party. Armed with a karaoke machine and a huge grin, he’d make sure everyone was having fun whether they were singing or listening to a very earnest rendition of “Let it Be.” Despite his boisterous and fun side, he was always incredibly thoughtful and soft spoken and always there to give advice. The earliest memory I have of Chu Tuan is him teaching me how to bait a hook my very first time fishing and Co Mai teaching me how to de-scale a fish. It was the slimiest, funniest, most amazing thing for little 8 year old me.  I will miss him so much, but I’m glad I’ll have these memories forever. Love always.

Although there are so many to choose from, I will always cherish the memories of our big family vacations. We always ate too much food, stayed up too late, and couldn’t wait to go back. They are some of the brightest highlights of my childhood. Miss you forever.

We never would have felt ready to say goodbye to someone special as anh Tuan, but this timing feels especially tough.  Wishing your family comfort and strength for the day and weeks ahead.  We’ll be praying for all of you 

Brother Tuan is a man of many talents. You wouldn’t be surprised to hear that he’s a loving son, husband, father, brother, accountant and savvy business owner. There is much more to him. To many of us, we cherish these memories of him as: a foodie, sharing with us all the good Vietnamese and seafood dishes to try;  a singer, passionate about becoming the next Elvis impersonator and providing great performances to many, including a circle of fans outside of his family; a teacher, sparking interest in fishing in young Adriane and Matt who love fishing to this day; and would you believe as Santa Claus, dressing up as jolly St Nick for many Christmases with a big bag of gifts and fun times for all.

Here’s to a life well lived. You will always be in our hearts!
