My dearest Shakeel, Tarana and Jameel,
I am very saddened by this news. I only heard of her passing yesterday. I know all too well what you are feeling and going through. My deepest sympathies to you all.
I have very fond memories of her when you were here in Geneva and then living with you all in New Jersey. She was like a mother to me. So wise, caring and so kind . I will never forget her curry’s that would cook on the stove for hours, all day almost on a Saturday or a Sunday. Her laughter, our talks. We spent quite a bit of time together and I will never forget those precious moments. 
May she rest in peace and may you all find strength and comfort amongst each other during this very difficult time.

The one and only Usha Ammi. I’ll always remember her for her green thumb, her soup spoons, her cool bathrooms in the Englewood house and the time she said “Sonia, what did you do to your hair?”, I said “nothing”, and she said “I can tell.” 😂😂 perfect setup. Without her, I wouldn’t have my Jameel and Shakeel Bhais, my Tarana Baji, Nikhil, Sofia, Asha, and Sloane. Hope you’re having fun with Abu, Ammi. 💙

Usha was a dear friend.  We first met at St. Andrew's church.  She was forming a woman's Bible group and asked me to join.  It was a wonderful group of women who were trying to live as Christ would have us live.  We became friends and she shared her remarkable life story from India to Pakistan to th US them to Switzerland  and back, always looking to uplift a nd support others through her work and those of her husband.  We have supported each other and shared our lives over the years.  When my husband and I moved we remained in close contact by phone.  She was a blessing in my life and I will miss her.  Phil and I send love and prayers to her family.

I am so sorry for your loss.  I met your mom 3 and a half years ago when we moved 2 doors down from her and I knew instantly I would become good friends with her.  Sure enough we became close in no time.  I will always remember her love for her family and close friends.  The stories she shared were priceless.  The trips we would take up and down the sidewalk to the mailbox, the yummy meals she would share with me, sitting there listening to her talk about various things, the laughs we shared, and just being by her side anytime she needed help are memories that I will always remember. She was my psychology teacher at Kinnaird College nearly 50 years ago. Infact she became my role model and I did my masters in psychology.

Nani was a woman whose love for her family was present in every word she spoke. I was deeply saddened to hear of her passing and am profoundly glad that I got to see her one last time. My deepest condolences go to my mother, Shakeel Mamu, and Jameel Mamu. I hope that you're all doing okay and take comfort in the same truth that I do: that she's with Nana once again and is at peace. 

Nothing but love for all those who she valued.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Usha’s family.  I remember a St. Patrick’s  celebration at  St. Andrews.  We sat at the table where Usha was sitting.  At the time we didn’t know her, she  starting talking to us like she had know us forever.  I will always remember her hugs and soft spoken voice.  Condolences to dear Usha. You will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of being greeted with your Love and Presence.

Deepest condolences to Usha's family.   She has been part of ours at St Andrews United Methodist Church for so very many years.   She is greatly missed.  Her smile and loving ways were contagious.   Her hugs were happy and heart warming.  We have enjoyed many moments  with Usha.  We will miss her beyond words.  She always wore a smile.   We loved her.   God bless! Usha was a beloved friend at St. Andrew’s for many, many years. My favorite memories are of eating lunch with her at Basmati restaurant after church. My husband and I met her there often. Once, we were at an event with Usha after church and she wandered away from our group. Everyone got worried about her and started searching the church, but I had a hunch of where to find her. We drove up the street and there she was at our usual table! She had decided it was time for lunch. 

I will also always remember her beautiful hand-drawn Christmas cards and her singing “America the Beautiful” in front of the church after telling her immigration story. 

May her memory be a blessing. She will be missed.

My condolences to the Barkat and Sahai families. I was a page boy at her wedding. My sister and cousins were all part of Usha’s bridal party in Jabalpur. She is now reunited with Anwar and all those who have gone before. RIP Usha.

Usha was a beloved friend made so through her membership at St. Andrews UMC where I was her pastor for many years. We shared many wonderful memories on the journey with Christ through his church. From mission trips where she participated in cooking for the missionaries who worked on homes of the poor to her work with the United Methodist Women, to her faithfulness in supporting the work of the church by her presence, giving, witness, and prayer, to her loving support of me as her pastor and friend and my family, Usha endeared herself to many through those years. Her grace, her love of her family and friends, her faithful Christian witness from India to Pakistan to the United States, she was truly a disciple of Jesus Christ. Well done good and faithful servant, until we meet again in paradise, may you rest in joyful peace with your beloved husband and all your family and friends who have died in the Lord. I am so filled with sadness that I am unable to attend Dadi’s funeral today, and that I was not able to be with her when she passed. However, I know that she is at peace now from her suffering, and she is finally back with her husband, Dada. 

But maybe even more so, I have the heaviest heart for my dad, who is walking alone through this life without his parents. I pray for him foremost. I pray that loneliness does not meet him, and that God reminds him that his mom and dad are together again, and that there is no more suffering in heaven. Romans chapter six tells us that there is eternal life in Christ. As God’s children, we know that death is the gateway to sit with the Father. 

So I pray for all those riddled with grief at this time, but I also pray that God remind them, remind my dad, that there is eternal life is death, and there is happiness in the end of a long, full life. 

Thank you all for gathering for Dadi today.
